According to the official schedule, development work at the Chandigarh railway station is scheduled to take place from September 10 to October 15, 2026. This extensive modernization initiative is designed to upgrade passenger amenities and modernize station infrastructure.

The comprehensive engineering project involves specific heavy construction activities aimed at modernizing the station's passenger areas. The confirmed work scope explicitly involves constructing a brand-new roof over the station areas alongside the complete demolition of the old foot overbridge. These simultaneous structural changes require extensive intervention across the tracks and platforms.

Due to the scale and complexity of these infrastructure upgrades, the operational impact on regional rail services will be substantial. A total of 442 trains will be completely cancelled during this 36-day period of continuous construction activity. Passengers who rely on these daily routes will need to secure alternative transportation methods while the tracks and station approaches remain closed for the development work.
