The formal agreement focuses specifically on cooperation regarding artificial intelligence copyright protection, marking a new chapter in the relationship between the major technology platform and the traditional entertainment industry.
This new memorandum of understanding applies broadly across all artificial intelligence models developed and operated by ByteDance. The comprehensive scope of the agreement covers widely used platforms and applications including TikTok, the TikTok USDS Joint Venture, the editing application CapCut, and the creative generation tool Dreamina, ensuring that copyright safeguards extend across the company's entire digital ecosystem.
The agreement comes after significant friction between the two organizations earlier in the year. Specifically, The Motion Picture Association previously sent a formal cease-and-desist letter to ByteDance in February, explicitly accusing its artificial intelligence models of utilizing copyrighted material without permission from rights holders.
Addressing the new accord, representatives for The Motion Picture Association stated that "this agreement represents significant cooperation between the two organizations." Furthermore, the association emphasized that the partnership supports "continued advances in IP protections" within the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Hollywood studios are currently involved in court proceedings for a separate lawsuit against Midjourney regarding copyright infringement, highlighting the intense legal and regulatory pressures confronting AI creators across the industry.
