The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, commonly known as BTMA, organized a significant exchange meeting to discuss the current situation of the primary textile sector and necessary policy support. The event took place on September 15, 2026, bringing together key industry figures at the venue located in Gulshan Club.

The meeting was presided over by BTMA President Shawkat Aziz Russell, who steered the discussions toward the pressing operational hurdles faced by manufacturers in the country. During the session, participants deliberated extensively on the challenges impacting the primary textile industry and explored potential policy interventions required to sustain growth.

Addressing the gathering, Md. Abul Kalam provided assurances regarding ongoing administrative efforts to alleviate critical utility constraints affecting industrial operations. He stated that the government is actively working on finding solutions to resolve existing gas and electricity problems.

Expounding on the operational requirements of the sector, BTMA President Shawkat Aziz Russell emphasized the vital link between energy supply and industrial output. He stated that if the continuity of fuel supply can be ensured, it will be possible to increase the production capacity of the primary textile industry, protect employment, and ensure an uninterrupted supply of raw materials for the ready-made garment industry.

The comprehensive dialogue at the Gulshan Club underscored the critical importance of the primary textile sector within the broader national economy. By focusing on policy support and energy security, industry stakeholders at the BTMA-initiated meeting mapped out essential priorities for sustaining the textile value chain under the current circumstances.
