BCB Medical Department Admits Past Compromises Over Litton Das Injury Protocols

On August 27, 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) medical department held a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The briefing was conducted by Professor of Dermatology and BCB Medical Department Chairman, Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim, to address the ongoing discussions and controversies regarding cricketer Litton Das's injury over the past two months, which had involved issues detected in Singapore.
During the press conference at the Mirpur venue, Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim addressed questions regarding medical reports and scans concerning Litton Das. He stated that the initial report and the scans were accurate, noting that the first scan was conducted two days later while the second scan took place fourteen days later. Emphasizing his professional background as a medical person and a professor of dermatology with a long career, he took responsibility for confirming that both reports accurately identified the Grade 1 injury.
The BCB medical department chairman openly acknowledged that the board had previously compromised established treatment rules. He explained that they had sometimes allowed players to undergo scans prematurely or permitted them to play early due to requests from selectors, team members, or others, conceding that such compromises should not have been made previously.
Addressing future policies regarding player injuries, Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim declared that the medical department will no longer make such compromises. He stated that they will strictly follow the established rules of medical science and that no one will be permitted to make any decisions without explicit medical approval moving forward.
Finally, the BCB medical official stressed the importance of proper recovery for both the individual and the nation. He stated that for the sake of Litton Das's career and the country, the player must return to the field only after his injury is fully healed, warning that playing while injured carries a very normal and significant risk of sustaining more serious injuries.
