Bangladesh has recorded a substantial influx of foreign remittances during the initial weeks of August 2026, showcasing strong financial contributions from expatriate workers. According to official data released by the central bank, Bangladesh Bank, expatriate citizens sent a total of 2.148 billion US dollars—specifically stated as 214 crore 80 lakh US dollars—during the first 22 days of the month.

The official figures regarding this substantial financial inflow were formally confirmed and made public by Arif Hossain Khan, who serves as the executive director and spokesperson for Bangladesh Bank. His announcement on August 23, 2026, highlighted the notable upward trajectory of remittance earnings entering the country through official banking channels.

When converted into local currency at a rate of 123 taka per US dollar, the total volume of remittances received during this 22-day August window amounts to 26,420 crore and 40 lakh taka. This translation into local currency underscores the vast economic scale of the funds flowing directly into domestic circulation and household recipients across Bangladesh.

This performance represents a stark and positive contrast to the figures recorded during the corresponding period in the previous year. Between August 1 and August 22, 2025, the country had received 1.711 billion US dollars, which translates to 171 crore and 10 lakh dollars. Comparing the two periods reveals a remarkable year-on-year increase of 43.70 million US dollars, or roughly 25.52 percent.

Furthermore, the broader fiscal year performance demonstrates sustained growth in overseas financial support. From the start of the current 2026-27 fiscal year on July 1 through August 22, Bangladesh has accumulated a cumulative total of 5.006 billion US dollars—or 500 crore and 60 lakh dollars—in total remittances.

During the exact corresponding timeframe of the previous fiscal year, the total incoming remittance stood at 4.188 billion US dollars, or 418 crore and 80 lakh dollars. Consequently, the overarching remittance flow from the beginning of the fiscal year up to August 22 has risen by 81.80 million US dollars, marking a growth rate of 19.5 percent.
