Bangladesh pacer Khaled Ahmed signs with Kent for County Championship

Bangladesh fast bowler Khaled Ahmed has officially signed with Kent to play in English county cricket, marking his very first stint in the prestigious tournament. The historic development was confirmed on September 2nd in England, as the pacer prepares to embark on a significant new chapter of his professional cricket career overseas.

Reflecting on the milestone opportunity, Khaled Ahmed expressed his enthusiasm about joining the English side. "Getting the opportunity to play county cricket for a traditional club like Kent is a matter of joy for me. Now is a very important time of the season. I am ready to give my best to help Kent achieve promotion," the fast bowler stated regarding his upcoming commitments with the team.

Khaled’s domestic career provides a strong foundation for this international move, having previously accumulated an impressive record of 190 wickets in 70 matches, which includes nine five-wicket hauls. Furthermore, he has represented his country in 18 Test matches, picking up 34 wickets along the way. His first-class journey originally began back in 2015 when he made his debut for Sylhet.

Kent has secured the fast bowler for a total of four matches to bolster their squad during the final stretch of the campaign. His debut appearance for the team will be against Worcestershire at Canterbury. Following that initial fixture, the remaining matches in his four-game contract include fixtures against Derbyshire, Lancashire, and Gloucestershire.

Discussing the recruitment, Kent's director of cricket Simon Cook shared his excitement regarding the arrival of the Bangladeshi pacer at Canterbury this September. Cook noted that the club specifically wanted to bring in a bowler who could immediately strengthen the team and enhance squad balance during the crucial latter stages of the season.

Simon Cook also highlighted the growing international connection between the club and South Asia, pointing out that Bangladeshi cricket fans have been following Kent closely ever since Hasan Mahmud arrived earlier in the summer. Cook expressed hope that Khaled Ahmed's arrival will further deepen that affection from supporters both locally and abroad.
