Md. Touhidul Islam, the non-resident ambassador of Bangladesh to Chile, has officially presented his diplomatic credentials to Chilean President José Antonio Kast. The presentation ceremony and subsequent bilateral discussions took place in Chile on August 19, marking an important step in strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.

During the bilateral meeting held in conjunction with the credential presentation, the discussions encompassed various aspects of cooperation between Bangladesh and the government of Chile. Diplomatic relations between the two countries have a longstanding history, noting that Chile officially recognized Bangladesh as an independent state on June 1, 1972.

Economic ties and commerce formed a significant part of the dialogue between Ambassador Islam and President Kast. Currently, the bilateral trade volume between Bangladesh and Chile stands at approximately 300 million US dollars, reflecting a substantial economic partnership that both nations look forward to expanding further.

Looking ahead to future diplomatic engagements, it was confirmed that Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Perez Mackena is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in January of next year. This upcoming high-level visit is expected to build upon the existing diplomatic framework and further deepen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

The diplomatic proceedings in Chile were supported by the relevant diplomatic missions and officials, including the Bangladesh Embassy. Both nations continue to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration, leveraging the historical recognition and the growing commercial footprint represented by the current trade figures.
