Bangladesh, India CII Delegation Discuss Trade and Infrastructure Ties
Bangladesh Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has met with a visiting delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industry in Dhaka. The discussions focused on enhancing economic cooperation, investment, and bilateral trade between the two neighbouring nations.
On Tuesday, a high-level delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) held a formal meeting with Bangladesh Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the Secretariat in Dhaka. The discussions marked a significant step in exploring deeper bilateral engagement, focusing heavily on expanding economic ties and industrial collaboration between Bangladesh and India.
The visiting Indian delegation was led by Chandrajit Banerjee, the Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). During the deliberations at the Secretariat, the CII representatives formally proposed the establishment of two dedicated joint task forces aimed specifically at boosting cooperation in Bangladesh's critical infrastructure and high-technology sectors.
During the meeting, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir emphasized the vital importance of transforming the natural geographical proximity shared by Bangladesh and India into tangible economic advantages. He underscored that both nations must work closely together to systematically increase bilateral trade, encourage cross-border investments, and strengthen industrial collaboration.
The talks also shed light on broader regional and logistical contexts, noting that last year alone, approximately 2.5 trillion Indian rupees were invested globally within the infrastructure sector. Meanwhile, discussions touched upon operational challenges, pointing out that transporting goods through land ports currently requires anywhere between 40 to 45 days. Additionally, technical insights highlighted that implementing certain efficiency measures could potentially achieve gas savings ranging from 10 to 35 percent.
This high-profile interaction between the Bangladeshi commerce ministry and the Indian industrial delegation highlights ongoing regional efforts to streamline supply chains and attract foreign investment. Both sides are expected to review the proposals put forward during the Dhaka meeting as part of broader bilateral trade dialogues moving forward.
