Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury gave an important interview to Prothom Alo at his Gulshan residence on Friday, shedding light on several key economic indicators and recent financial policy adjustments in Bangladesh.

During the interview in Dhaka, the minister discussed the country's foreign exchange reserves, noting a significant positive shift over the course of several months. Official data confirmed that the foreign exchange reserves stood at 34.02 billion dollars on February 15, and subsequently increased to 37.11 billion dollars by August 13.

In addition to the growth in foreign exchange reserves, the discussion touched upon monetary policy measures implemented by Bangladesh Bank. Notably, the policy interest rate was reduced from 10 percent down to 9.5 percent.

The wide-ranging financial review conducted during the Friday meeting also encompassed broader economic metrics, including specific developments concerning the National Board of Revenue and the International Monetary Fund.

Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury further addressed complex fiscal challenges during his conversation with Prothom Alo, including details regarding an approximate shortfall of 2 lakh crore taka within the national financial framework.
