The Bangladesh Embassy in Cairo organized a comprehensive two-day consular camp in Alexandria, Egypt's second-largest city, to better serve the local expatriate population. The initiative was designed to bring essential administrative services directly to Bangladeshi nationals residing far from the capital city of Cairo, alleviating the logistical challenges typically associated with obtaining official documentation.

The consular camp officially commenced on Friday, September 11, and concluded on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The two-day outreach program was hosted at Golden Stars Textile, a location chosen to accommodate the workers and residents in the area conveniently. Throughout the duration of the event, numerous expatriates utilized the opportunity to access a wide array of official embassy services.

Among the primary offerings at the camp were the acceptance of new e-passport applications as well as the distribution of processed passports. Additionally, officials provided travel permits, issued various embassy letters, and handled the official attestation of important documents. These services ensured that workers could manage critical paperwork without needing to travel long distances.

Goutam Kumar Dey highlighted the core objectives behind organizing the outreach event in Alexandria. He stated that the primary aims are to simplify the delivery of necessary consular services to expatriate Bangladeshis and to make communication between the community and the embassy much stronger and more effective. Furthermore, Dey noted that another key goal of the camp is to hear directly about various problems and challenges faced by expatriate workers so that the embassy can provide them with the necessary assistance and support.

Local expatriate Bangladeshis expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, emphasizing its tangible benefits for those living in distant regions. They noted that hosting such a consular camp in areas far from Cairo is critically important. According to the residents, the arrangement saves both time and travel expenses required to reach the capital, while simultaneously creating an opportunity for them to receive vital government services despite their busy and demanding work schedules.
