In a significant regulatory development aimed at formalizing community investments, the government of Bangladesh has initiated steps to make corporate social responsibility spending mandatory for commercial entities operating within the country. According to official disclosures, authorities have proposed that businesses allocate a minimum of one percent of their pre-tax profits toward approved corporate social responsibility activities.

As part of this regulatory process, the Ministry of Commerce has successfully formulated a comprehensive draft of the National Corporate Social Responsibility Policy for the year 2026. To ensure transparency and incorporate industry perspectives, the ministry has formally published this draft document on its official website, actively inviting feedback, suggestions, and observations from concerned stakeholders and the broader public.

Once finalized and formally implemented, the newly formulated policy will have a wide-ranging jurisdiction across various sectors of the national economy. Specifically, the regulatory framework's provisions will directly apply to all companies listed on the stock exchanges, commercial banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, and state-owned commercial enterprises.

Furthermore, the mandatory compliance requirements outlined in the draft 2026 policy will extend to multinational corporations as well as any other business entities that exceed specified operational thresholds in terms of their overall business volume. This broad coverage is designed to ensure that large-scale commercial operations systematically contribute to social development initiatives across Bangladesh.

The formulation of this landmark policy involves coordination and institutional alignment among key economic regulators and government bodies of the country. Alongside the Ministry of Commerce, the regulatory framework has engaged important national institutions including Bangladesh Bank, the National Board of Revenue, and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission in its administrative context.
