Bangladesh Bank Resets Islamic Bank Profits as Withdrawals Hit 1,040 Crore Taka
Bangladesh Bank has announced a restructuring of profit rates for Sammilito Islami Bank, alongside opening fund withdrawals for account holders. Following the resumption of payout operations, tens of thousands of customers have already withdrawn billions of taka.

Bangladesh Bank has officially established new regulations concerning the profit rates for personal and non-institutional fixed deposits as well as installment-based deposits held at Sammilito Islami Bank. Under the central bank's directives, these specific deposit categories will not be subjected to a flat 4 percent profit rate for the extended period spanning from January 1, 2024, through December 28, 2025.
In addition to the longer-term adjustments, the central bank confirmed that the newly restructured profit rates will remain fully applicable across a critical three-day interim period. This transitional framework officially covers the final days of the calendar year, specifically running from December 29 through December 31, 2025, ensuring continuous regulatory oversight during the transition.
Alongside the policy adjustments on profit rates, significant operational changes took effect for account holders at Sammilito Islami Bank. Starting from September 7, customers holding funds at the financial institution were officially granted the long-awaited opportunity to access and withdraw their deposited money from the bank.
The resumption of payout services immediately triggered a massive wave of activity across the banking institution. Statistical data compiled following the opening of withdrawals reveals that a total of 27,056 individual customers successfully accessed their accounts and withdrew their funds during the initial three-day period alone.
The aggregate volume of capital disbursed during this rapid three-day window reached a substantial financial milestone. Official figures confirm that customers collectively withdrew an astounding 1,040 crore taka from Sammilito Islami Bank since the withdrawal procedures were officially set into motion on September 7.
