Bangladesh Bank Posts 25,900 Crore Taka Profit as E-commerce Fraud Addressed
Bangladesh Bank has reported a net profit of around 25,900 crore taka for the 2025-26 fiscal year. Meanwhile, the Commerce Minister addressed thousands of consumer complaints regarding e-commerce fraud in Parliament on August 30, 2026.

On Sunday, August 30, 2026, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the national Parliament witnessed significant official disclosures concerning both the country's central banking finances and widespread irregularities within the digital commerce sector. Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir delivered a comprehensive written response addressing the persistent issue of e-commerce fraud and the various regulatory measures implemented by the government to protect aggrieved citizens.
During the parliamentary session, the Commerce Minister detailed the alarming scale of consumer grievances lodged against various online retail platforms operating within the country. According to the official data provided to the national legislature, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has formally received a staggering total of 58,720 complaints directed against numerous e-commerce entities.
The financial magnitude of these consumer grievances is exceptionally high, with the total amount of money claimed by cheated customers reaching approximately 3,869 crore taka. These widespread financial irregularities have continued to draw intense scrutiny from lawmakers and regulatory authorities alike, prompting ongoing governmental interventions to address the digital marketplace's systemic vulnerabilities.
In a separate economic development announced during the same period, the central regulatory authority, Bangladesh Bank, released its robust financial figures for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The premier financial institution successfully recorded a substantial net profit of approximately 25,900 crore taka for the duration of the fiscal period.
This latest financial performance marks a notable growth when compared to the preceding fiscal year's figures. During the previous financial cycle, Bangladesh Bank had registered a net profit of 22,620 crore taka, demonstrating a positive upward trajectory in the central bank's operational earnings amid broader national economic developments.
