The high-level official trip commenced on 16 September 2026, when General Waker-Uz-Zaman officially left Bangladesh to travel to the East Asian nation. His itinerary is centered around major international sporting events and diplomatic engagements associated with his sports leadership role.
The primary purpose of the army chief's visit is to attend the upcoming opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games. This major multi-sport competition is scheduled to be held in the Japanese cities of Aichi and Nagoya.
As the head of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, General Waker-Uz-Zaman's participation underscores the nation's engagement with the broader Asian sporting community and international Olympic committees gathered for the 20th Asian Games.
