In Dhaka, Bangladesh, a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committees on Economic Affairs and Government Purchase took place on August 19, 2026. The sessions were presided over by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, where several crucial energy and industrial proposals were tabled for review and endorsement by the committees.

During the proceedings, the meeting granted in-principle approval for the procurement of a total of 14 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This substantial volume of fuel is scheduled to be acquired directly through the direct procurement method from a total of seven different participating organizations to meet the growing domestic energy demands.

In addition to the direct procurement decision, the committees addressed another procurement stream involving international quotations. A specific proposal to purchase one cargo of LNG from Aramco Trading Singapore Private Limited was put forward for recommendation and subsequently approved during the official sessions.

Financial details regarding the single cargo sourced via international quotation indicate a per-unit cost of 23.93 US dollars per MMBTU. This price point reflects current market conditions, contrasting with the rate of 13.56 US dollars per unit recorded during the previous April.

Beyond the liquefied natural gas procurements, the cabinet committees also turned their attention to the industrial sector, specifically focusing on the agricultural input supply chain. A formal proposal was recommended for approval to secure specialized technical assistance aimed at maintaining uninterrupted production operations at the Ghorashal-Palash fertilizer factory.

To facilitate the ongoing operational requirements of the Ghorashal-Palash fertilizer facility, the approved technical support will be sourced from Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for a duration of one year. The total financial expenditure allocated for this one-year technical assistance arrangement has been fixed at 39 crore 52 lakh 55 thousand taka.
