Bandarban Adventure: Exploring Marayan Tong and Megher Aranya
A group of travelers recently visited Bandarban's Marayan Tong hill and the off-grid Megher Aranya wild camp. The journey offered participants a unique nature experience despite limited electricity.
On August 14, a group of travelers embarked on a memorable journey to Bandarban's remote Alikadam upazila, driven by a shared desire to experience the natural beauty of the hills. The expedition was led by writer Tanim and Shishir, alongside a cohesive team consisting of eleven adventurous members in total. Their primary destination was the picturesque Marayan Tong hill, where they sought refuge in the breathtaking landscapes and tranquil environment that the region is widely celebrated for.
During their stay in the highlands, the team set up their base at the 'Megher Aranya' wild camp, situated near the majestic Marayan Tong hill. Embracing the authentic and rugged nature of a true wilderness retreat, the campsite operates entirely without a conventional electricity connection. To manage essential power needs, the camp relies solely on a generator, which is operated for a brief duration of just one hour each day, forcing visitors to disconnect from modern digital conveniences.
Reflecting on the profound impact of the journey and the majestic scenery surrounding them, team member Tanim shared a deeply appreciative perspective about the destination. Highlighting the timeless and rewarding nature of the highlands, Tanim stated, 'Mountains never disappoint anyone, they simply cannot.' This sentiment captured the essence of the adventure, resonating strongly with every member of the eleven-person traveling party as they immersed themselves fully in the wild surroundings.
Beyond the scenic vistas of the camp and the summit of Marayan Tong, the itinerary included active exploration of the surrounding terrain and local culture. The group journeyed to discover the refreshing waters of the local Shilbuniya waterfall, adding an element of aquatic adventure to their mountain trek. Additionally, the travelers visited a traditional Mro neighborhood, providing them with a meaningful glimpse into the daily lives and cultural heritage of the indigenous community residing in the Alikadam hills.
