APT Wireless Group 37th Event Kicks Off in Dhaka With BTRC Leadership
The 37th APT Wireless Group (AWG-37) event has officially commenced in Dhaka, bringing together key telecommunications figures. BTRC Chairman Major General (Retd) Md Emdadul Bari presided over the opening ceremony at the Radisson Blu Water Garden.
The capital city of Dhaka has played host to the prestigious 37th APT Wireless Group (AWG-37) event, drawing attention to the rapid advancements and ongoing developments within the nation's telecommunications sector. The high-profile gathering took place at the renowned Radisson Blu Water Garden, serving as an important platform for discussions on wireless technology and regional cooperation among industry stakeholders.
During the inaugural proceedings of the AWG-37 event, Fakir Mahbub Anam graced the occasion as the chief guest, delivering an address that highlighted the significance of the telecommunications landscape. The session was formally presided over by Major General (Retd) Md Emdadul Bari, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), guiding the discourse toward future infrastructural and regulatory milestones.
The telecommunications sector in the country has experienced substantial growth, supported by extensive digital infrastructure developments across the nation. Official deployment data indicates that the country currently boasts approximately 46,000 telecommunications towers. Furthermore, the foundational physical connectivity has been significantly strengthened through the establishment of nearly 173,000 kilometers of optical fiber network infrastructure, facilitating high-speed data transmission nationwide.
Mobile and internet connectivity metrics further underscore the massive scale of digital adoption among the populace. As of July 2026, the country's telecommunications ecosystem accommodates approximately 191 million mobile connections. Alongside this extensive mobile penetration, the user base for internet connectivity has also expanded remarkably, reaching nearly 100 million active internet connections.
Mobile broadband services, particularly fourth-generation (4G) technology, have achieved widespread adoption among consumers throughout the country. Statistical reports confirm that more than 108 million subscribers are actively utilizing 4G services. To support this massive demand for high-speed mobile data, telecommunications operators have deployed over 49,000 4G sites nationwide, ensuring broader coverage and improved service quality for users.
