Anglers Compete in Brahmanbaria Fishing Tournament

A recreational fishing competition took place on Friday at the Bireshedighi pond, located in Collegepara within the Kalikachchh union of Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria. The event drew amateur anglers from various districts across the country who traveled to participate in the scheduled activities at the roughly three-acre water body.

Ali Mia stated that this type of gathering is organized at the location every year, marking this event as the sixth iteration of the competition. He noted that hobbyist fishermen from different parts of the nation regularly travel to take part in these organized contests.

During Friday's event, Abdul Hannan achieved notable success by catching multiple fish that secured top placements. He reeled in a catla fish weighing 5 kilograms and 405 grams, alongside another catla fish weighing 3 kilograms and 895 grams, which earned him both the first and third prizes.

Reflecting on his performance during the tournament, Abdul Hannan remarked that he managed to secure both the first and third prizes entirely on his own, adding that he felt very good about the achievement. Through his successful catches, he collected a total of 230,000 taka in prize money.

The competition highlights the ongoing tradition of recreational fishing events in the region, bringing together enthusiasts to test their angling skills. Organizers continue to facilitate these gatherings annually, drawing participants who compete for substantial cash awards and recognition.
