Privacy Policy

The platform collects personal data only where the user provides it or a function requires it:

• Newsletter email address — collected upon subscription, used solely to deliver the daily digest.
• Push notification subscription — created when the user grants browser permission; contains a browser-generated endpoint and keys only, no name or email.
• Comment name, text and IP address — collected upon posting; name and text are public, the IP address is retained internally for spam and abuse prevention.
• Google account name, email and picture — received only where the user elects to sign in with Google, and used to restore saved items.
• Poll participation marker — an irreversible hash derived from IP and browser, retained to prevent duplicate voting; the raw IP is not stored and the hash cannot identify the user.
• Article view counts — aggregate counters only; no record of who read what is kept.

No advertising or tracking cookies are set. The limited storage used serves specific functions only — such as retaining the reader’s theme preference and session state for the newsroom’s authorised staff.

Text, images and fonts are served from our own infrastructure. Embedded videos are loaded via youtube-nocookie.com, which prevents YouTube from setting cookies until playback is initiated. Where a user elects to sign in with Google, Google’s own terms apply to that interaction.

Data is retained no longer than its purpose requires. Users may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal data by writing to [email protected]. Requests are verified before action is taken. Push notifications may be disabled at any time through the browser’s own settings.

The platform does not knowingly collect data from persons under the age of thirteen. Any such data identified will be deleted upon notification.

All traffic is encrypted in transit via HTTPS and administrative access is separately authenticated. No system connected to the Internet can be warranted absolutely secure; accordingly, the platform collects the minimum data necessary to operate. Amendments to this policy take effect upon publication on this page, whereupon the date of last update will be revised.
